Blessed Are The Poor In Spirit

Matthew 5:3Matthew 5:3

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

If you are like me on the first time reading this scripture and you thought “poor in spirit? What does that mean?” Welcome! Studying this verse and chapter in general requires you to look and go deeper than what you see on the surface. Most people associate the term ‘poor’ with the lack of money or the lack of something. And what Jesus was trying to express here from what I understand is that, the people of God who know the materialistic things of this world can not satisfy them and are longing for God to satisfy them, He reassures them that the Kingdom of Heaven is a place of inheritance where when they get there they will experience no lack anymore. But guess what the plot twist is? We don’t have to wait till we get to heaven! Isn’t that amazing?!

God wants to satisfy you here, on earth too!

The only thing is, what are you choosing to satisfy you?

The harsh truth is that

anything OR ‘anyone’ outside of God will never satisfy you,

sorry.

So today, choose to long for Jesus as we are encouraged in the word of God that,

“He satisfies the longing soul and the hungry he fills with good things.”

Psalm 107:9

God bless you,

Rebecca
